Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product?

Prompt Response: During 8th grade I had to write a poem about my experience throughout middle school. The process was very long and tedious so that we were sure we had a great poem. I was not proud of the finish product. This was because I didn't really understand at the time what I was doing and how to write a poem. Now understanding how to write poems I wish I could go back and rewrite it because I think it would definitely be better.

Summary: Today in class we looked at a poem and annotated it to dissect the meaning of words and phrases. 

Refection: I liked what we did in class today a lot. Over the years I have had a difficult time understanding poems and the point they are trying to make. Going through and annotating it/ taking notes helped me to understand the poem better. I have a better understanding of how poems are written and how to read them.

Prompt Response: Last year in AP Seminar,  I made a claim that social media harms teenagers' mental health. The night before my presentation, I presented my claim to my parents and sister so I could better prepare myself for class the next day. During my presentation, my younger sister asked how do you know this is true? I clicked to the next slide and provided her with much research and statistics that further made my claim more credible. I explained the relationship betweeen mental health and the overuse of social media, as well as how comparison online relates to the deterioration of teens' mental health. Explaining evidence is just as important as providing it because straight evidience doesnt always prove a point by itself. Think of a time when you or someone you know used informal language in a situation where formal language may have been more appropriate. What happened? Looking back, what could have been said differently, and what did the situation teach you about choosing your words carefully?

Prompt Response: When I was in middle school, I went to a tiny private Christian school. It was chapel day and we had to wear our chapel uniforms. I was in 6th grade and I got dress coded for my skirt being too short. I was then taken to the principal's office and I started bawling and using informal language because I was so sad, scared and frustrated. I said things more sassy and rude which got me into even more trouble. Looking back, If I used more formal wording and a better tone I could've probably gotten my point across better and not ended up with as many consequences. Describe something you will never fully understand.

Prompt Response: Something that I will never understand is boys. The past two years, I have dated a boy and through that, I have learned so many different things about the way that boys think and act. No boy is the same, but I have realized that the way boys and girls think is so alike, yet also so different. My ex and I just recently broke up, and I will never fully understand his thought process or his actions, no matter how much I think about everything.  Summary: Today in class, we looked at a previous AP Exam argumentative essay response prompt and created claims that would answer the prompt.  Reflection: I really enjoyed what we worked on in class today. It was definitely challenging and nothing like I've ever done before, but it provided me with a new way to think about questions and prompts. I learned how to make claims about value and community, which I really enjoyed.
